tourist tuesday: jon's fish market, dana point harbor

i've talked about the dana point harbor before on my blog, but today i wanted to highlight a great little fish shack that has been near and dear to my heart since i was young. we used to eat here as a family when i was little, usually after a day kayaking or after my parents would pick us up from jr. sailors summer camp. they have recently added some great outdoor seating and umbrellas, which makes it a great place to enjoy a summer evening. you can even bring your own wine and beer to enjoy with your meal.

The late Sherman Hemsley...

I did this for tv guide back in the day... all airbrushed. The recently deceased Sherman Hemsley had another show after The Jeffersons called "Amen" and this was for that show.

fridays fancies: refreshments needed

hi friend! and happy friday!! this week for friday's fancies i incorporated my favorite summer cocktail into an amazing summer evening outfit (thanks to inspiration from {av}). theres nothing better than an ice cold raspberry mojito on the beach at the beachcomber, taking in the sunset, and just chatting with your best girl friends. ahhh summer, i hope you never leave.

if you really knew me

this has been floating all around the blogosphere lately and i've contemplated joining in.  i was worried that i wouldn't be able to come up with some interesting things but after seeing it again, most recently on megan's blog, i thought ... why not?! so here goes nothing.

if you really knew me ...

you'd know that i'm adopted.  i was adopted at birth and only know my mom & dad as my parents.  to say that i'm blessed with the family i have would be an understatement.

you'd know that i still haven't graduated college.  i went for 5 years and have taken the last year off.  i'm going back to school this fall and it's my #1 goal to graduate and get my degree.

you'd know that i hate putting away laundry.  washing it isn't a problem, but i will leave it folded in my hamper for days without putting it in my drawers.

you'd know that i have self worth and body issues.  i'm working on them and am learning to love myself more and more each day.  i can't wait until the day i can look in the mirror and be happy with who i see.

you'd know i have a problem managing my finances but have gotten better and better at it and was even able to buy my very first car.  right now i am currently saving for school & my own house!

if you really knew me ...

you'd know i was born & raised in san clemente and have only lived here and san diego.

you'd know i've worked for the san diego padres, sea world & the los angeles angels, and i currently work in management for target.

you'd know avocado is my favorite food and i could put it on almost anything.  tomatoes are my second and i eat them like apples with salt and pepper.

you'd know that i'm a night owl.  i stay up late and seem to get most of my stuff done after 10pm.

you'd know that i'm a certified starbucks barista.  coffee anyone?

Crane Wife at Modern Eden Gallery

Hello all! I wanted to let you know about my latest work hanging at the very wonderful Moden Eden gallery in San Francisco, CA! I was lucky enough to be part of their latest group show, "Myth," and returned to a subject I find myself coming back to time and time again; the Japanese folktale The Crane Wife.
More info "behind the work" and purchase info here!
I didn't get to post about the opening reception back on July 14th, but luckily, there is a closing reception in conjunction with North Beach First Fridays on Friday, August 3, 2012.   The closing reception will be held at 403 Francisco Street from 6-9pm.

Matrioska for Petites

Newness for Mod Yabusaka Petites

Ghanima Uriza's Matrioska Skins are now available for Petites!
They work with the easy to use Pass Hud System, and
Must be used with the modifiable Petite Mesh Avatar purchased directly from Yabusaka Loon.

The Pass Hud uses a wonderful system that no longer requires dragging textures onto your Modifiable Petite Avatar parts.
Initially, wear the Pass Hud that you can purchase for free at Matrioska and click on it to get the Pass Script.
Rez the Avatar parts and drag the script onto each of them, then take them back into your inventory.
*Note: Name the Avatar parts with Pass, so you know which parts are Pass scripted.
Once that is done, your Pass Scripted Petite Avatar is ready to wear and you never have to rez it again.
To load skins into the hud, wear the box that comes with your Matrioska purchase of choice,
and it will automatically load them into the hud.
The hud itself is very easy to use.  Once it's been loaded with the skins, you will see them in a small Preview box with back and forward arrows to chose between skins.  Below the Preview Box is a Bust Button that you can press to activate (for cleavage), and to the left of the Preview Box is the Apply button which applies your choices onto your Avatar in seconds.

The Matrioska Skins are currently available in 3 Makeups Fantasy, Cried Out, and Deva.
They come in 6 Skin Tones, 3 Human and 3 Fae.
Below you can see the lovely shading front and back of the Medium Human Skin Tone.
There is also a preview of the front with and without the 'Bust' cleavage option.

For more photos of the lovely Matrioska Skins, please see my Flickr Stream.

fridays fancies: bonjour!

happy friday sweet thangs! boy do i have a busy (but fun) day today. nail appt, hair appt & the angels game tonight. i'm so glad i have today off to get some stuff done and enjoy this incredible weather we are having. but don't get me wrong, i would love to be prancing around europe with {av} right now, too. and in honor of her trip abroad, here's a little outfit i'd love to rock around the streets of paris.

the last time i was in paris i was only about 14 and didn't get a chance to really explore. the next time i go, i can't wait to check out every nook and cranny of that city. i'd totally play ultimate tourist and rock a super sweet outfit doing it. beige shorts, a white tank and a chambray top for when it's gets chilly. add a fun hat and scarf for a little spunk. and of course, some sweet crochet toms. from what i hear, they are the best for exploring new cities in! ahhhh paris, i can't wait to see you again.

ps. if you'd like to sponsor eat, drink, be a tourist in august there are plenty of spots left. use code "vip" to get 50% off all paid spots!

A Crash Course in Online Piracy

I was contacted via email by Katherine Long, who is part of, a team of designers and researchers that designed a graphic which highlights how the billions of dollars that Hollywood claims to lose due to piracy, isn't all that they make it out to be. In fact, it may be helping them. She kindly offered to share the graphic with collage clearinghouse readers and I was happy to oblige. It's really well done, and I love the way the graphic symbols match the content.
I was also amazed with the facts in it's content. Take a look for yourself, and see where your opinion lies...

Music, Movies, Programs & Piracy

blogger 411

hi friends! saw this little diddy floating around blog land today and since i didn't have anything planned or exciting to share with you today, i thought i'd answer the questions and share some things about me (and some old school pictures). enjoy!

1. How long have you been blogging? And what got you started on blogging? Has your blog changed?

i started my blog in october of 2010, but didn't really get into blogging until the beginning of 2011. two of my best friends had blogs and since i've always loved to write, i thought it would be fun to have a blog of my own. my blog started as a place to write about the fun places to see and great places to eat in san diego. it has evolved into more of a lifestyle and travel blog. i still talk about fun things to do and see in southern california, but with more of me.

2. Did you go to college? If so where, and what did you study?

yep. i went to san diego state university for five years. i started as a kinesiology major, switched to PR, and am now a recreation and tourism management major. i have taken the last year off due to financial issues and am excited to get back to school this fall!

3. Where have you traveled?

i have been to 25 of 50 states, including alaska and hawaii, mexico and six countries in europe - germany, austria, switzerland, france, england and italy. i have also been to 26 of 58 national parks.

4. If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you would buy?

it's not really buying, but i'd pay off my car, credit cards and student loans. then i'd buy a house and take a vacation to somewhere exotic.

5. What are your 3 biggest pet peeves?

people who talk on their phones when ordering their coffee & hold up the line, slow drivers, and flakes.

6. What is your favorite movie?

old school: wizard of oz. new school: old school or wedding crashers.

7. What is your drink of choice; wine, beer, or liquor. Or Water, Soda, Tea?

soda: diet coke. alcoholic: beer (ipa's are my favorite).

8. What is something you enjoy to do when you have me time?

drinking wine and watching trashy reality tv. i also love going to the movies or shopping by myself. something about those things are so relaxing and soothing.

9. If you could have a $10,000 shopping spree to one store, which store would it be?

target. clothes, tvs, groceries, beauty needs ... they've got it all!

10. Share with us an embarrassing moment of your past? Or present.

sleep walking into my across the hall neighbors dorm room freshman year. don't remember anything but waking up in my friends bed the next morning. we had jack and jill bathrooms in our dorms & i went in through one room, through the bathroom, and into the next room and crawled in bed like it made sense. definitely an awkward way to wakeup.

11. What day would you love to relive again?

i can't think of one right off the bat. there's not really a day i'd want to relive in order to change it. i wouldn't mind being able to relive some college years though, just to be able to do it again. those were some crazy times with the craziest best friends ever.

12. If your life was turned into a movie... what actor would play you?

kristin wiig. she could make my life seem funnier than it already is.

13. What are the jobs you had in high school/college/the early years?

high school: coldstone. college: a realty company, sea world, san diego padres & anaheim angels. now: target.

14. Show us a picture from high school or college.

senior in high school:

15. If you could travel anywhere in the world, all expenses paid, where would you go?

australia and new zealand. somewhere exotic and tropical.

16. Show us the most current picture of you or you, or your family, or anything of meaning to you.

17. Where do you see your life 5 years from now?

graduated college with my masters in sports business, working in a career that i love, owning my own home and maybe engaged. so many possibilities! can't wait.
